Tháp Babel

¹Khi đó toàn thế giới đều nói bằng một ngôn ngữ và một thổ âm.

The tower of Babel

¹The whole world had one language and a common speech.

²Một thời gian sau, trong khi di chuyển từ phương Đông, họ gặp một đồng bằng ở đất Sina, và định cư ở đó.

²As people moved from east, they found a plain in the country of Shinar where they settled.

³Họ nói với nhau rằng, “Chúng ta hãy làm gạch và nung trong lửa cho kỹ”. Và họ dùng gạch thay đá, và vôi thay cho hồ.

³They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them in fire.” They used brick for stone and bitumen for mortar.

⁴Họ nói rằng, “Nào! chúng ta hãy xây một thành và một cái tháp, mà đỉnh tháp cao đến tận trời; ta hãy làm vang danh ta, để khỏi bị phân tán khắp mặt đất”.

⁴They said also, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top reaching heaven; so that we may become a great people and not be scattered over the face of the earth!”

⁵Đức Chúa ngự xuống xem cái thành và tháp mà con cái loài người đã xây.

⁵Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of man were building,

⁶Và Đức Chúa phán rằng, “Nếu bây giờ, chúng chỉ là một, nói cùng một ngôn ngữ mà chúng đã khởi công làm như thế; thì sẽ không có gì chúng nghĩ ra mà chúng không làm được!

⁶and Yahweh said, “They are one people and they have one language. If they carry this through, nothing they decide to do from now on will be impossible.

⁷Vậy, chúng ta hãy xuống, làm xáo trộn ngôn ngữ của chúng, để chúng không hiểu được lời nói của nhau nữa”.

⁷Come! Let us go down and confuse their language so that they will no longer understand each other.”

⁸Nên Đức Chúa phân tán họ ra khắp mặt đất, và họ bỏ giở việc xây thành.

⁸So Yahweh scattered them over all the earth and they stopped building the city.

⁹Nên thành được gọi là Babel, vì ở đó Đức Chúa đã làm xáo trộn ngôn ngữ của của cả thế gian, và từ đây Ngài đã phân tán họ khắp mặt đất.

⁹That is why it was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth and from there Yahweh scattered them over the whole face of the earth.

 ¹⁰Đây là dòng dõi của Shem: hai năm sau đại hồng thủy, Shem được một trăm tuổi, và sinh Arpasad.

Patriarchs after the Flood

¹⁰These are Shem’s descendants:  When Shem was a hundred years old he became the father of Arpachshad, two years after the flood. After the birth of Arpachshad,

¹¹Sau khi Shem sinh Arpasad rồi, còn sống được năm trăm năm, sinh con trai con gái.

¹¹Shem lived five hundred years and he had more sons and daughters.

¹²Arpasad được ba mươi lăm tuổi, sinh Shêla.

¹²When Arpachshad was thirty-five years old he became the father of Shelah.

¹³Sau khi Arpasad sinh Shêla rồi, còn sống được bốn trăm lẻ ba năm, sinh con trai con gái.

¹³After the birth of Shelah, Arpachshad lived four hundred and three years and he had more sons and daughters.

¹⁴Khi Shêla được ba mươi tuổi thì sinh Êbe.

¹⁴When Shelah was thirty years old he became the father of Eber. After the birth of Eber,

¹⁵Sau khi Shêla sinh Êbe rồi, còn sống được bốn trăm ba năm, sinh con trai con gái

¹⁵Shelah lived four hundred and three years and he had more sons and daughters.

¹⁶Khi Êbe được ba mươi bốn tuổi thì sinh Peléc.

¹⁶When Eber was thirty-four years old he became the father of Peleg. After the birth of Peleg,

¹⁷Sau khi Êbe sinh Peléc rồi, còn sống được bốn trăm ba mươi năm, sinh con trai con gái.

¹⁷Eber lived four hundred and thirty years and he had more sons and daughters.

¹⁸Peléc được ba mươi tuổi, sinh Reu:

¹⁸When Peleg was thirty years old he became the father of Reu;

¹⁹Sau khi ông Peléc sinh Reu rồi, còn sống được hai trăm lẻ chín năm, sinh con trai con gái.

¹⁹Peleg lived two hundred and nine years and he had more sons and daughters.

²⁰Reu được ba mươi hai tuổi, sinh Sêrug.

²⁰When Reu was thirty-two years old he became the father of Serug;

²¹Sau khi Reu sinh Sêrug rồi, còn sống được hai trăm lẻ bảy năm, sinh con trai con gái.

²¹Reu lived two hundred and seven years and he had more sons and daughters.

²²Sêrug được ba mươi tuổi, sinh Naho,

²²When Serug was thirty years old he became the father of Nahor.

²³Sau khi Sêrug sinh Naho rồi, còn sống được hai trăm năm, sinh con trai con gái.

²³ After the birth of Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years and he had more sons and daughters.

²⁴ Naho được hai mươi chín tuổi, sinh Têra.

²⁴When Nahor was twenty-nine years old he became the father of Terah.

²⁵Sau khi Naho sinh Têra rồi, còn sống được một trăm mười chín năm, sinh con trai con gái.

²⁵ After the birth of Terah, Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years and he had more sons and daughters.

²⁶Còn  Têra khi bảy mươi tuổi thì sanh Abram, Naho, và Haran.

²⁶When Terah was seventy years old he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.

Dòng Dõi của ông Têra

 ²⁷Đây là dòng dõi của  Têra:  Têra sinh Abram, Naho, và Haran;  Haran sinh Lót.

Terah’s descendants

 ²⁷These are Terah’s descendants: Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.   Haran became the father of Lot.

²⁸Haran qua đời trước cha mình là Têra tại sanh quán mình, nghiã là Ur, thuộc xứ Canđê.

²⁸Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, Ur of the Chaldeans.

²⁹Abram và Naho cưới vợ; vợ Abram tên là bà Sarai, còn vợ Naho tên là Milca; Milca, con gái của Haran, là cha của Milca và Ítca.

²⁹Abram and Nahor both married: Abram’s wife was called Sarai; Nahor’s wife was called Milcah, the daughter of Haran, father of Milcah and Iscah.

³⁰Còn Sarai hiếm muộn không có con.

³⁰Sarai was barren, having no child.

³¹Têra dẫn Abram, con ông, Lót, con ông Haran, cháu ông, và bà Sarai, vợ Abram, con dâu ông, cùng rời Ur, đất Canđê, mà qua đất Canaan. Khi đến Haran thì định cư ở đó.

³¹Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram, and made them leave Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan. But on arrival in Haran they settled there.

³²Têra hưởng thọ hai trăm năm tuổi, rồi qua đời tại Haran.

³²Terah lived two hundred and five years; then he died in Haran.
